PROFILE ABOUT MYSELF

My name is Mr. Manneh Jerreh K.  I am a Gambian by birth, age 52 years.  I am married to a Gambian and has two children.  I am a civil servant, employed by the ministry agriculture in The Gambia where I serve as a principal plant pathologist under the Plant Protection Service (PPS), which is a Department under the ministry.

Following the completion of my high school in 1985, I was admitted for one-year certificate course in insurance marketing at The Gambia National Insurance Cooperation (GNIC) and worked for the Cooperation for three years.  I then joined the department of agriculture in 1993 and the following year I went to the Gambia college for a two-year certificate course in general agriculture.  In 1988 I went to the Republic of Niger for two-year diploma in general crop protection.  In 2008 I got enrollment for two-year BSc degree programme at UTG.  In 2013 I was in back in Niger on MSc on mycology.

Currently, I am a PhD AgSE student in Crop Pasture Production and Sustainable Environment programme in Center of Excellence in Agricultural Development and Sustainable Environment (CEADESE), Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Ogun State, Nigeria.  I am on a three-year Gambia government scholarship and I was enrolled in the second semester of 2015-2016 academic year. Presently, I am doing my project work here in FUNAAB on the topic; Molecular Characterization of Aspergillus flavus and biological control toxigenic Aspergillus on groundnut in The Gambia and I hope to finish in 2019.

I was interested inthis Center programme as it focused on teaching, learning and research excellent in agricultural productivity under the prevailing climate change conditions as one of its objectives which can be achieved through capacity building and research in collaboration with agricultural industries and other stakeholders in agriculture.  These are very fundamental in any meaningful agricultural development and can go a long way in driving our developing countries towards the attainment of food and income security.  I chose to attend FUNAAB not only because it is an agricultural university but also because its instance of being chosen for the establishment of the center after a tough competitive application, is a clear indication that it is a university of high standard.  I am therefore hopeful that upon completion of my programme in CEADESE, I will be equipped with knowledge and experience that if I return to my country I will be able to show any one, by delivering high quality service, that CEADESE/FUNAAB worth attending.

Finally, I am so impressed with CEADESE/FUNAAB that I would be very grateful if I can establish a strong link between it and University of The Gambia (UTG).  I attempted it when my supervisor came to see me in The Gambia while I was on internship and I will continue to push the idea anytime I have the opportunity.
